Transportation

By road, rail and river.

Kundapura is one of the better-connected towns on the Karnataka coast, strung along the main coastal highway and railway that link Mumbai with Mangaluru and the south. Rivers and ferries add a distinctive local layer to getting around.

By road

National Highway 66 (the Panvel–Kanyakumari coastal highway) runs directly through Kundapura, making road travel straightforward. Frequent KSRTC and private buses connect it to Udupi, Mangaluru, Bhatkal, Karwar, Bengaluru and Goa. The scenic Maravanthe stretch is part of this route.

By rail

The Konkan Railway serves the town through Kundapura railway station, with trains linking it to Mangaluru, Udupi, Mumbai, Goa and beyond. The railway hugs the coast and Ghats for one of India's most scenic journeys.

By air

The nearest airport is Mangaluru International Airport, roughly 100 km to the south, with domestic and some international connections. Bengaluru's airport is the major hub for longer-haul travel.

Local and river transport

Within the taluk, buses, autorickshaws and taxis cover the towns and villages, while ferries and boats still cross the rivers and backwaters around Gangolli — a reminder of how central water remains to coastal life.
